City of Bluefield
Master planning has begun for the proposed Colonial Intermodal
Center in downtown
Bluefield. The project site is the former Matz Hotel and Colonial
Theater property, which is owned by the
City of Bluefield.
City leaders envision
an economic development project that will provide a catalyst for
investment and revitalization of downtown Bluefield. Possible
project elements include transit facilities, retail, residential and
cultural uses and recreation facilities.
The City of Bluefield is providing funding for the master plan.
Congressman Nick J. Rahall has secured funding in the 2010 federal
budget for architecture and engineering once the master plan is
completed. The plan should be complete in late 2010. Bluefield has
appointed a Steering Committee to work with city's planning
consultant, PB Americas, in preparing the plan. Pentree Engineering,
a Mercer County based engineering firm, will assist PB.
The Bluefield community is encouraged to participate in preparing
the master plan. Planned community meetings will be announced on
this Web site.
